When the things I love become stressful...

I take a step back and...

- pray
- scream into a pillow
- cry into a pillow
- punch the pillow
- ...put down the pillow...
- take a walk
- call up a good friend
- watch a funny tv show (Parks and Recreation at the moment)
- laugh
- breathe
- pick up my needles, hook, pencil, laptop, or all of the above and remember why I love this so much

Now that college is coming to an end, I'm faced with so many decisions about the future that I'm not ready to make.  So, you could say it was "one of those days'...

But I have to admit, this system for de-stressing is highly effective. Just follow the steps, rinse, and repeat if necessary. :)

  1. Music always works for me. Whenever I feel stressed, I just grab my ipod and headphones and just blast until I feel better...When I knit and Im angry I knit way faster than when I'm calm.

  2. The first thing I reach for is the television -- Parks and Rec is the best! And it really does let you pick up the yarn again and laugh while you work :)

  4. I might have to take on your tips. I graduate in May and am already stressing about the decisions I'll have to make. Good luck to you!

  5. Aw, so sorry to hear that you had a hard day! Hope that tomorrow is brighter. Though having a good pillow-beating session always does relieve that i'm-going-crazy feeling.
I get it whenever I think about college, too. Haha.

  8. Oh for sure! It is so necessary to let it out - scream/ yell/ cry (the car is a great place to scream too! lol) But you are so smart and talented and motivated I know you will be totally fine whatever life hands you! You are such an inspiration and I totally admire you for all the hard work you put into everything you do! You are destined for truly wonderful, amazing and fulfilling things! You know where to find me if you need to chat xo

  9. One day, this will all be a memory. Hoping you can figure things out - or at least get a few more good relaxing breaks from trying to figure it all out!

  10. Great tips!! I am also a college student! And I also had myself a pretty up and down kind of day. Reading this reminded me that life is hard and that I am not the only one who has those little horrid moments! So thanks :) and I hope everything goes better for you!!

  11. homegirl, i totally feel you on this one. the uncertainty of the future after may is squashing me from one angle while my current responsibilities crush me from the opposite direction and the guilt from not enjoying every moment of my last year in college seems to fill in any gaps they miss. i'm a crazy planner woman, so making lists seriously de-stresses me and helps me get a visual of what is going on in my life. i feel like if i can write it out, it at least exists outside my brain and can be worked out on paper, in reality.

i hope you can find some comfort in the idea that you're not alone in your college/futurefreakout stress. it's nice to hear from another blogger going through this totally strange transitional period. if you ever need to chat/want to swap anxiety stories, holla atcha girl. 12. The thing that's great about those college decisions is the freedom to power to reset the game when it's most needed. I love that life allows us to reinvent ourselves if we need to.

  13. Very good list~ I agree with the stepping back part. Coming back to something with a refreshed perspective is a happy thing. :D

  14. excellent list - I like to watch either Parks & Recreation or The Office - both are great to calm down. But I like to pick up my needles simultaneously - there's nothing more relaxing than watching a good tv series, laughing and knitting (and drinking some tea...)

  15. When I'm stressed, I grab my wife, our kitties and cuddle under blankets with the window wide open and something comforting on TV.

    ...I may also punch a pillow. ;)

  16. Sounds familiar. All that matters is the last step though =) and the first. PS I love the colours in your square! x

  17. Umm, I didn't know what I was doing after graduation until spring break of SENIOR YEAR. It was terrifying. But it ended up working out really well. I went to get a teaching certificate and Master's in teaching. Now I have a job I love! Don't stress, things always work out in their own time.

  18. Music and a nice long, dramatic cry are usually my vice. And im almost done with school as well (the end of march). It's very exciting, and very terrifying...

  19. I graduated over two years ago but I remember that feeling. It's important to remember that no decision has to be permanent. You can always change your mind. It's something I try to remind myself to help destress.

  20. Miles Davis and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) is my favorite stress reducer at the moment.
Not being in college anymore means no more homework! That's a good feeling. I've been out of college for four years and sometimes I'll still get that itching feeling... "I think I have homework or something to do?" But I don't! It's pretty sweet.
