Crochet Scallops and Pentax Film

I recently found this Pentax K1000 for a great deal on eBay. I've been searching for a beginner 35mm film camera for awhile now so I could fuel my love of photography without spending quite as much on film and developing. The camera came with a basic strap so I decided to dress it up with crochet. Yesterday afternoon I started some blue and red scallop stripes to cover the top section of the strap using this stitch pattern. I still have a little bit to finish but I really like the look so far. The color combination is one of my favorites!
I was really surprised at how many photos came out on my first roll of film because I'm so used to the sketchy results from my Diana. I like that I have a little more control over these images. I even tried a double exposure of my cat. Creepy twin cats...
I'm still learning the ins and outs of this camera. I accidentally opened the back too soon while unloading my second roll of film resulting in exposed pictures and light leaks. However, I really like this last picture of the lake. The pink makes it look like a dreamy sunset in the middle of a hot summer day. That unexpected beauty is what I love most about film.

I hope you have a great day!

  1. That's interesting, you've got a 55mm 1:2 lens on it. I didn't know they made those for K mount, I thought it was exclusively a screw mount thing.
I have two Pentax film SLRs - a K1000 and an ME Super and I have 50mm 1:2 and 50mm 1.7 lenses (one for each so I don't go and pick up a camera with no lens on!)
Strangely I hadn't thought about crocheting a camera strap cosy for mine, I might give it a go!

I don't think I've uploaded any K1000 ones yet but there're plenty of ME Super ones on there :)

  2. Wow, I love your cat photograph! And the dreamy sunset :))

I've always toyed with the idea of a film camera as Photojojo have such awesome accessories and DIYs for film. I think, though, that I need to pace myself as I get into so many crafting things I can get a little overwhelmed. I'm still such a novice with my DSLR!

  9. Oh, I love the lake photo too!! It looks like that ombre effect I've been seeing in some people's photography lately. And serious question: will you please please please consider crocheting some camera strap covers for your etsy?? I've been searching for the perfect one, and I'd love to one day have your handiwork adorning my Canon ;)

  23. I miss my Pentax K-1000... so sad when it got a light leak and could not be repaired. I've never been able to find an easy to use camera like that, that took such fantastic pictures... lovely post...
