Heart on a Fence

I spotted a picture of a fence covered with yarn wrapped hearts on Pinterest yesterday and it inspired me to try it myself. The original post is from Outdoor Knit where a group of people came together to add these little yarn hearts to a fence and draw attention to a neglected area of town. I think that is the coolest idea. The power of craft is endless!

I stuck a ball of yarn in my purse when I left the house today hoping to leave my own mark somewhere around town. I went by to check on my strawberry yarn bomb from earlier this summer and it is still there! I can't believe it! It makes me happy that the business owners nearby have left is up for such a long time. The fence I chose for the heart isn't in a bad area, but it is a little neglected and overgrown. Nearby is a basketball court and a few benches so hopefully it will cause someone to stop and smile.  It was a  quick piece of yarn bombing and would be great for any non-knitters out there. It is amazing to me how yarn can make the most mundane of objects beautiful and worthy of a second glance.

Yarn brings me so much joy that I can't help sharing it with others, even in the smallest of ways.

I hope you have a relaxing weekend!

  2. Yeah! Yarn bombing is now for everyone. Knitters, crocheter's (is that even a word?? lol) and now just anyone armed with a ball of yarn.

You know, it might be kinda fun to organize a yarn bombing day. We could all go out and to a yarn bomb and then share them on our blogs, etc. I'd be game. So fun! Anyone else up for it?

  7. Yarn bombs make me smile every time - and this one is particularly cute. I saw some cross stitch on a fly screen the other day which was totally fab. Have you read Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett? It's a celebration of all things yarn with really gorgeous illustrations - yum! X

  9. This looks absolutely adorable! It is my goal to yarn bomb something this year, and I may have to try this! I can imagine adding a little more yarn to that same fence every now and then and it would end up with hearts all over it! So cute :D

  10. I love the yarn hearts! A very pretty addition to a dull chain-link fence. I would like to try this! I haven't yet had the boldness to do it, but this might be a great project to ease into it!

  19. The simplest designs are often the best. I like this idea.

Last Valentine's Day a group of us knitted/crocheted dozens of mini hearts which we tied to front doors, fences, trees, bushes all around our neighbourhood for people to find first thing in the morning. A few of them are still up.

  24. This reminded me of an artist's work I saw at the exhibition "Lost in Lace" in Birmingham City Museum & Art Gallery, UK. Lise Bjorne Linnert wraps red threads around "holes" in her environment and takes photos of this to exhibit: http://beelinetree.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/lise-bjorne-linnert-artist.html

  28. It’s like one of those love padlocks in Korea! A couple must have sworn their promises by this fence, Meredith and took that thing to symbolize their promise for each other. It looks really cute, though.
