Embroidered Birthday Cards and Yarn Bombing Plans

Hooray for Friday! I hope you all had a great week. I have been in a bit of a slump lately, getting over my cold and just feeling "blah". There is nothing like making gifts and plotting my yarn bombing tricks for the weekend to help send the "blahs" away. Two of my very best friends have birthdays in October so I decided to stitch them special cards. You can never go wrong with a handmade card, especially when I have embroidery thread and paper sitting around just waiting to be turned into something fun! I delivered the finished birthday card this afternoon. Hopefully my sweet friend Sarah is reading it now! Happy (early) Birthday Sarah! :)

I am also planning my yarn bomb for Sheepish Yarn Bombing Day tomorrow. I am so excited to see what you all come up with! I am definitely doing something fall related...I just can't decide what! I doodled a few ideas this week so I just need to pick one and finish making it tonight. There is rain in the forecast tomorrow so I might have to cheat and do my yarn bombing on Sunday. If you are doing a yarn bomb tomorrow please tweet, Instagram, or email me your pictures! Use the #sheepishyarnbomb hashtag too! Don't be nervous. This is going to be fun!

Can you share any hints about your yarn bombing project or are you keeping it a secret? ;)

  1. I love your idea of a fall theme, but here in the Southern Hemisphere, we are moving into spring. So I might do some pretty blossoms! I'm excited, I've never done yarn bombing before!!

  2. I think I am going to do a simple heart on a background. It's going to go on the armrest of a bench by my work!

  3. Hi Meredith from not so sunny Canberra, Australia! Your stitched cards are just so beautiful, the themes and colour choices are spot on. I've never done a yarn bombing before either. You are making us all into svelt crusaders, what fun! We are in Spring time here but true to form the windy, wet September weather has arrived on queue. I am still making a bright eyecatching crotched string of flowers to represent Spring and will email you with the evidence!
Viva la yard bombing! Oh utter happiness...:)

  5. Wow what a great idea for a homemade birthday card! I think today is the day I may be brave enough to yarn bomb something! I really like the leaf idea, it is quick to make and quick to hang from something!

  9. If I could knit, I'd definitely be out there yarn bombing right now!! :P I'm going past a little cafe today though where there seems to be an ever-expanding amount of yarn bombed objects around it - trees, bicycle racks, light posts. Maybe I'll snap a photo just for fun :) Love the cards!! I'm going to give this a go for the next birthday that rolls around :) Rhi xx

  12. Do you know about Craftivist Collective? I think you might be interested - they cross-stitch mini protest banners and attach them to lamposts to raise awareness of social issues in a non-threatening, charming and very personal way. Kinda like yarn bombing but with a more explicit message (and I strongly believe that decorating the urban environment with fluffy and colourful wool conveys a very strong message in itself, by the way!). Read here and here if you're interested.

  14. Hi Meredith, just discovered your blog and loving all the back reading! Yarn bombing looks so fun! Think once I've got a bit better at knitting I might give it ago! Not seen any yarn bombs in Aberdeen, Scotland so far - might have to start the trend! :)

  15. Love the birthday card, so pretty! :)
I couldn't join your yarn bombing day/weekend, cause I was busy on Saturday and felt totally unfit for any action on Sunday. :( Got me a little sad...but next time I hope to participate! :)

I'm now trying some more complicated designs and finding it very addictive!
