I dabbled with paper embroidery again in my journal last night and I think this time I have started a new monthly tradition! Each month I try to think about the positive things ahead especially if the month before was not so positive. I am still learning how to not be a student and deal with that major life change. Hopefully more big changes are coming very soon, but until then, I decided to take a minute and jot down a few of the fun things I want to experience this month. I tend to focus on the stressful things that are beyond my control so taking an hour to stitch and dream in my journal is a great way to start a new month.
October is going to be filled with lots of warm, fall festivities!
- Visit the local pumpkin patch. I love picking out the perfect pumpkin. It reminds me of when I was little and our kindergarten class went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. I also love eating the pumpkin seeds!
- Go to the State Fair of Texas! The state fair is such a tradition around here. I love the sights, smells, and laughing at the ridiculous line-up of fried foods. Apparently they have a fried red velvet cupcake this year? No, thank you.
- Make homemade lasagna. I've always wanted to make homemade pasta. I found a recipe in a Martha Stewart cookbook for vegetable lasagna with spinach pasta that sounds amazing. It might take me all day to make but it will be a labor of love.
- Go to the Dallas Arboretum. The arboretum has a cool glass art exhibit happening right now that I really want to see.
- Wear a sweater! Goals are important.
- Have more coffee dates with friends. I wish I could do this every day.
- Train for the Turkey Trot! The Turkey Trot is a popular 5k race that is held on Thanksgiving Day here in Dallas. It has been a goal of mine to run a 5k and I've decided to give it a try this year! The Turkey Trot is a walk/run race for people of all ages so I don't have to worry about actually racing people. I just want to finish and have fun!
October is a new month. A clean, cinnamon-spice scented, slate. I'm all set to enjoy the creative moments that lie ahead.
What are you looking forward to this month?

This is so gorgeous! It's a great idea to make monthly goals.
ReplyDeleteMy main goal is to have an amazing Halloween party!

The Turkey Trot is a great idea! Sometimes having physical goals as well as mental goals really helps you feel like you've got things under control. :) You can totally do it!
ReplyDeleteTransitioning from being a student is really tough. (It's too bad they didn't have a class on it in school.) But I think you are going about it in a really positive way. I'm rooting for ya!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Audry! I really appreciate your support. :)
DeleteYour stitching on paper reminds me of my primary school years and I want to make some too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will manage to go to the arboretum! It is a great chance to see Chihully! Please take some photos of his art to show us here!AriadnefromGreece!
What a gorgeous note book page! I love your embroidery ideas. I'm looking forward to wearing boots and to take long walks in the colorful forest! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to make homemade lasagna too! Not sure if I'll attempt the homemade noodles, but I am super into trying my own ricotta. YUM! I so adore the paper embroidery also. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute.

Great piece of embroidery, it looks so sweet. I love your goals too... more coffee dates is always a good plan!
ReplyDeleteThis is so, so cute! And I love your goals, they don't need to be bigger than that. Sweet things to brighten up your days.
ReplyDeleteMmmm Pumpkins! And I already wore my first sweater today :) That's so awesome that you're training for the 5k too! I did a Turkey Trot (ours was called that too!) a while ago for Thanksgiving and it was a blast! We're planning on running it again this year! Great goals for the month :) Oh, and that embroidery is so cute too!

I love the embroidery and your handwriting! I've worn about two sweaters already, it's feels great to match the weather this holiday. I'm looking into going to a local pumpkin patch myself, I've never been to one before!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a good idea! I think I might have to start doing that, focusing on the positives and not the negatives!
ReplyDeleteI love your handwriting, it's so curly and neat whereas mines all over the place.
Paper embroidery! I need to try this on blank greeting cards. It would be so cute!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Happy October! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI do this every month too. Make a list of little goals and things to look forward to throughout the month. It allows me to go into every new month focusing on the positives.
ReplyDelete- tianna :)
What a great list! October is going to be perfect. x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, and a fantastic list, too. Haha I would be so nervous that I'd mess up spelling after embroidering something so beautiful as your month heading!
ReplyDeleteHappy October, my dear! :)
What lovely goals! I absolutely love pumpkins patches and hay rides and mazes! It's one of the things I miss most about home. Lasagne from scratch is something I've wanted to tackle forever. I loved Smitten Kitchens post about it (http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2012/02/lasagna-bolognese/) but anything Martha makes is usually pretty darn good too!
ReplyDeleteOh that recipe looks amazing! Thank you so much for sharing.
DeleteIt's a cute, gorgeous way to create an adorable journal!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a sweet october!

ReplyDeleteAnd I love your October plans! So many wonderful things! :) :)
I haven't blogged about my October plans yet, but I will do it in the next days for sure. :)
Love, Yoojin
Firstly, the embroidery is stunning, you really have a flair for it :)
ReplyDeleteYour plans for October sound wonderful, visiting the pumpkin patch definitely sounds like something I would love to do *jealous*
I think for me the plans are......start my new job, be more positive, and more importantly knit more challenging things! tee hee I don't want to do anything too difficult :)

Those sound like wonderful plans Kate! Good luck with your new job. :)
DeleteI have a great veggie lasagna recipe. It is a lot of work, but totally worth it. Plus one day of cooking lasagna makes several days of meals... worth the work for sure.
ReplyDeleteThis fall I'm wanting to go apple picking and visit a corn maze.
I am definitely looking forward to the leftovers when I make it.
DeleteI've never been apple picking before! I'm not sure if there are any apple orchards nearby but that sounds like a lot of fun.
Great idea! You are so good at embroidery! I started it for a while, but then just ran out of time with school. You make me want to take it up again! Have a great day!

I'm training for the Dallas Turkey Trot too! I haven't done a 5K in oh, maybe 10 years now. And haven't run one all the way through in about 14 or 15 years. Ooof! Go us.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm so glad you made it to the Arboretum. I volunteer there, and it's really perfect in the fall. The only competition to pumpkin time is tulip/cherry blossom time in mid-March. I highly recommend it!
