The Blush List - Happy Easter!

Knitting // I think this pair of cable socks from Spud & ChloĆ« is going to be my next personal project! I love the stockinette and seed stitch cable pattern.
Crochet // A trio of crochet cotton hanging planters from Airy Obsessions.
Wish List // The new spring prints and cards from Rifle Paper Co. are so vibrant and colorful! I especially love the vintage blossoms card set.
Style // A skirt covered in oversized polka dots is my kind of skirt.
Art // Kelli Murray's printable Easter bunny illustration is so sweet! I printed one out to pin to my cork board. :)
Food // One of my favorite ice cream flavors transformed into a macaron! I will definitely try this mint chocolate chip macaron recipe from Raspberri Cupcakes.

Happy Easter!

I hope you are having a great day with friends and family. I had a great morning celebrating Easter and enjoying brunch with my family. These pretty spring finds remind me of my favorite candy eggs. :)

Tomorrow is the first day of April! Yikes! This year is flying by so fast. I already have a long list of things to accomplish next month and I am excited to get started!

Also, I finally finished one of my project ideas for the leftover pom poms. I will post it tomorrow!

How was your weekend? Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Weekend Plans 3/29 - 3/31

Happy Friday friends!

Another busy week has come and gone. I am so excited to enjoy the long Easter weekend with my family! First things first, I need to get rid of the headache that is conveniently located above my left eye. Once the annoying pain goes away, I am ready for pastel candies, knitting, working on deadlines, spending time with family, and, most importantly, celebrating Easter. Here's what I have planned...

- As of yesterday evening I am officially obsessed with the video series called The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I am a bit late to the party because on the same day that I start watching and become completely addicted, the final episode airs.  I can already tell I won't want it to end! The series is a modern adaptation of Pride & Prejudice and centers around Lizzie Bennet's video diary. It is so great.

- My double seed stitch scarf is getting longer and longer. I didn't really know what it was going to be when I started (you know, stress knitting...) but I think it will be a nice chunky cowl for the fall. Also, I am still scouting photo locations for my finished granny blanket. I can't wait to share the finished photos! It was such a fun project.

- I need to work on deadlines coming up in the next few weeks and new projects that are getting started. All good things though! :)

- I can't wait to make Easter brunch with my mom. Not with plastic eggs of course...

- What is your favorite Easter candy? I already opened some sour gummy eggs to kick off the weekend.

- A set of pastel notebooks for more writing and planning ideas. I think I will use one for paper embroidery projects!

- This pretty white sparkle nail polish caught my eye on Pinterest. It is the perfect, spring polish!

That's about it! If you celebrate, Happy Easter to you! I hope you all have a great weekend. What do you have planned?

Sponsor in April + Google Reader Changes

Here are a few snapshots from my Instagram feed. Lately I am inspired by capturing the cheerful colors of spring! It keeps me smiling on the days lacking color.

I recently updated my sponsor page with new blog statistics and advertising information. Now that I use Passionfruit ads you can purchase an ad space at any time, not just at the end of the month, and it will run for 30 days. If you are interested in sponsoring in April I would love to have you! The Extra Large, Large, and Medium ad spaces are available for purchase. I also have three month ad bundles at a discounted rate. You can find all of the advertising information here. Please email me if you have any questions during the purchasing process. Thank you for your continued support of my blog!

Also, Google recently announced that Google Reader is shutting down in the next few months. If you read One Sheepish Girl with Google Reader I suggest switching over to Bloglovin' or another subscription service like Feedly. You can quickly import your Google Reader subscriptions to Bloglovin' here. I love the organization of Bloglovin' and the clean look. I highly recommend making the switch!

I hope you are having a great week so far! This week is surprisingly busy, but in the best way possible! A little less creative time, but that just means more to enjoy over the long, Easter weekend. :)

Crochet Eggs for Gathered by Mollie Makes

I recently created this trio of soft crochet eggs for Issue 23 of Gathered by Mollie Makes. This quick crochet egg pattern makes a great Easter decoration! Slip a few yarn eggs in an Easter basket or string six or seven on a piece of yarn for a sweet garland. You can make these crochet eggs in a variety of colors and stripe variations. A mess-free version of Easter egg dyeing. ;)

This crochet egg pattern is available here. I hope you enjoy working on this project before Easter weekend! The only problem with these eggs is that there is no chocolate candy hiding inside. ;)

Are you working on any other crafts for Easter?

Weekend Baking - Baked Strawberry Donuts

This baked strawberry donut recipe is officially my favorite donut recipe to date! I'm not a huge fan of fried donuts so these might be my favorite donuts period. I found the donut recipe here on Cooking Classy. There is so much strawberry flavor packed in these pretty pink treats. I baked a batch on Saturday morning and kept one for myself before sharing the rest with friends and family. They were a huge hit! The glaze was a little tricky to thin out without using water. After a lot of mixing, the strawberries and powdered sugar came together and formed a shiny glaze.

Just a few photos from another weekend baking experiment. :) I look forward to cooking with more fresh fruits and vegetables as spring turns into summer and the local farmer's market opens up again.

Happy Monday to you! Have you tried any new recipes lately?

The Blush List - Easter Pastels

Knitting // This bobble sheep pillow pattern is pretty much perfect.
Knitting Inspiration // I love the mix of colors and patterns in this pair of socks
Etsy // Bright, hand painted geometric brooches from Sketch Inc.
Style // These pastel color block outfits are so cheerful! (look one & look two)
Art // This soft serve watercolor print looks good enough to eat!
Food // Sweetapolita's vanilla blackberry-marscapone cake looks like a beautiful and tasty Easter dessert.

Happy Sunday friends! I am inspired by pretty Easter pastels this week. I love the pastel colors that pop up in the candy aisles, flower shops, and clothing racks this time of year. It is all so happy and light. I can't believe Easter is already next weekend! This month is moving way too fast.

It was great to take a break for a few days. The weather was strangely cold and, of course, I loved it. Perfect knitting, crafting, and baking weather! Thank you for sharing your pom pom craft suggestions on Friday! I thought of a few other ways to use my leftover pom poms and I will definitely share my ideas this week.

How was your weekend? I think I am going to make Sunday walks a tradition. It is my favorite way to unwind, enjoy being outside, and get ready for a new week.

Also, I announced the A Wooden Tree giveaway winners here! Thanks so much for entering the giveaway!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Weekend Plans 3/22 - 3/24

If I could hug a day of the week, I would give this Friday this biggest hug ever. I wish long weeks equaled even longer weekends, but I'm sure the next few days will pass by in a blink. In between meeting deadlines and spending time with family, I look forward to some time for relaxing and creating.

Here's what I have planned...

- This baked strawberry doughnut recipe has been calling my name all week. I can't wait to give it a try tomorrow.

- The latest issue of Kinfolk arrived in the mail yesterday. I flipped through a few pages and I can tell a major ice cream craving is right around the corner...

- I started knitting this I'm-not-sure-what-it-is-yet project the other night out of stress and some leftover yarn from my granny square blanket. The pattern is double seed stitch and I love the texture.

- I have two ziploc bags filled with pom poms from the yarn party photo shoot last week. I am trying to think of a way  to put them to good use. Hopefully I will think of a fun project this weekend!

- My giant granny square blanket is getting so big that it wouldn't fit in the regular 'Weekend Plans' pictures. Haha. 'Giant' is the perfect word to describe this blanket. I think I have about seven rounds left and it will be finished! I am so excited. However, I'm not sure how I will take pictures of the finished blanket...

That's about it! How was your week? Are you doing anything fun this weekend?

I hope you have a great Friday. :)

What's In My Yarn Bag? with Emma Lamb

I am so excited to introduce the lovely Emma Lamb for this month's "What's In My Yarn Bag?" interview! Emma is an extremely talented textile designer, shop owner, and all around yarn-lover from Edinburgh, Scotland. I am thrilled to get this peek inside her colorful yarn bag. I hope you enjoy!

1. What do you typically keep in your yarn bag?

Usually my yarn bags hold my personal projects rather than my work ones. Just now I have two on the go, a crochet cardigan and a knitted jumper in the most gorgeous shade of green. In these bags I keep the project and the yarn needed for it alongside the pattern and a neat wee bundle of empty ball-bands, which I'm never able to part with until the project is finished!

They grey crochet cardigan is my 'driving project' (obviously I'm not the one driving!) and has been in wip form for over two years now! I only ever take it in the car when we go to visit my parents as it's such a great way to fill those few hours. The pattern was very quick to memorize as it is a very simple repeat, so it is easy to pick up this project even after a few months of not working on it. The pattern is 'Charm' by Erika Knight from Rowan magazine #49 and the yarn is Rowan Purelife organic cotton, 4ply, in Oak Bark. Such a gorgeous yarn and such a shame it's been discontinued!
The green knitted jumper is a wee project I started over the festive break and is part of my 2013 agenda - 'I must use up the yarn from my personal stash before I buy more!' I was doing so well until this month when I went along to the first ever Edinburgh Yarn Festival! In my defense, I made sure I didn't blow my entire budget on yarn and picked up a couple of great pattern books too... ;) Anyhow, this pattern is the Yoke detail sweater by Debbie Bliss and the yarn is RYC Luxury Cotton DK in Cabbage, another lovely yarn that has been discontinued.
Saying that there are a few things I do keep handy whenever I'm working on any knitting or crochet project. Absolute essentials are herbal tea, either peppermint or a warming ginger infusion, and delicious dark chocolate, anything 80% cocoa usually gets my seal of approval! I also keep a few notebooks and accompanying bit'n'bobs nearby. I have three at that the moment - one for my crochet notes of course; one that I scribble my day to day lists in, blogs post ideas and whatnot; the last is a wee sketchbook for the occasional mindless doodling when I need to do something completely different.
2. Are you working on any fun projects or new items for you shop at the moment? We want to see!

At the moment I do have a few things on the hook for my shop, but they're top secret until they're ready! One thing I am always working on are my multi-coloured Penny Garlands. I use up all the oddments of leftover yarn from my Forever Flower Garlands to make these, so they don't come along very often and no two are ever the same. These are always a lot of fun to crochet as I don't hold to any rules about choosing the colours, I just let them happen. Oh, and the collection of colourful wee squares are to make my wee man Spanner a new crochet blanket, I'll probably edge and joining them with a simple cream yarn.
I've also just started work on an epic crochet blanket project, and for me it's one of those projects that feels a wee bit like a guilty pleasure! Again I've thrown out all the colour rules and am having so much fun just making this up as I go along. I have no idea how this will turn out or even if I will like the end result, but it's very liberating to work on and and a great exercise in letting go of my obsessive colour control.
3. What is your favorite crochet creation that you've ever made?

Custom projects are my absolute favourite to work on because they often present the opportunity to explore ideas I might not get the chance to otherwise. It's always very inspiring to work so closely with my customers too, while we discuss ideas we get to know each other a wee bit and this helps to make the project that much more enjoyable. So far one of my favourite commissions was from last summer when a lovely lady asked me to create a collection of twelve of my Forever Flower Garlands, her plan was to use them as decorations for her birthing room to welcome her new baby into the world! I mean, wow! What an honour! Not only that, but this commission came along only a few weeks after I began pondering a similar idea. I had been wanting to create something quite epic with my garlands and this was exactly that opportunity! And 'epic' it was. These twelve garlands took 192 flowers with another 12 for the wee swing tags. I needed a total of 204 but must have crocheted at least 250 to able to experiment with colour placement. All those hours (including weaving in all those ends) was so worth it because the end result was far more amazing than I could have imagined.
4. Do you like to carry your yarn bag with you and work on your crochet projects in public? Where do you feel most comfortable crocheting?

Apart from a wee bit of crochet in the car and maybe taking something along to a summer picnic (I have really bad circulation in my fingers so in the winter months here in Scotland my hands get very cold very easily and I need to work over a hot water bottle!) I tend to do most of my crochet at home. I'm definitely not one for always carrying a project with me to squeeze in a few stitches here and there. For me knitting and crochet is something to focus on for an hour or two at a time and more often than not I do it while watching a bunch of great films with lots of tea and chocolate to hand.

5. What is your favorite part about yarn crafting?
Buying yarn is so satisfying, right!? As I said earlier, choosing and matching colours is something I am completely obsessed with and I can spend an hour or two pondering over colours in a yarn shop!

Thank you so much for sharing your inspirations and creative process with us Emma! Your projects are so beautiful.

Tea and dark chocolate...the perfect yarn crafting companions. :)

Behind the Scenes - Emma Magazine Yarn Party

Here is yet another sneak peek from the yarn party I photographed and created for Emma Magazine last week! It was so fun making all of the props, decorations, and projects for this magazine feature. The bright colors combined with new friends made for the perfect afternoon.

The ladies worked on their knitting, crochet, and pom pom-making skills while snacking on sweets and sipping tea. I can't wait to share the finished photos, projects, and printable downloads from this yarn party! Be on the look out because the feature will be published in the May issue of Emma Magazine! Also, I will share a few of the projects, like the yarn ball garland and granny square coasters, here on my blog.

I hope you are having a great start to the week! :)

The Blush List - Spring Bouquet

Knitting // The delicate cables in this Quince & Co. sock pattern look a little intimidating but I would love to give it a try!
Crochet // A beautiful piece of vintage crochet work done around the edges of ric rac.
Handmade // This dreamy flower garland is made of hand-painted paper petals.
Style // Bri's dream job style posts are absolutely stunning! I especially love her beautiful florist inspired look
Art // Each letter in this delicate floral alphabet was created by hand and photographed by Anne Lee
Food // Even though I  have had my eye on several different recipes, I have yet to make a puffed pancake. After seeing this honey cloud pancake recipe from Things We Make I don't think I can wait much longer!

I wish I had a garden or the ability to keep flowers alive for longer than a weekend. My tulips from Friday are already drooping a little bit. Hopefully the color will stay bright through the first few days of next week. Now that spring is here, I can't stop snapping photos of pretty blooms when I am out and about. I really want to visit the Dallas Arboretum again this season. I'm sure their tulips will put my sad bunch to shame. ;)

I hope you had a great weekend! I am thankful for the time to rest and work on new projects. I think I will go out for a nice walk before getting ready for the new week. A lot of exciting things are happening around here and I can't wait to share soon!

Also, I announced the Fringe Supply Co. giveaway winner here! Thank you so much for entering!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
